Product Description:
Copley Controls manufactures the PST-140-04-DP, a DC power module in the PST Power Supplies series that supports servo drives and positioning controllers in industrial automation. The unit transforms single-phase mains power into a stable DC rail by using an internal rectifier and energy-storage network. Multiple amplifiers can share the common bus, minimizing line harmonics and allowing regenerative braking energy to be reused within the machine. Its design streamlines cabinet layouts by centralizing power conversion, while the integrated discharge resistance reduces residual voltage during maintenance.
The supply produces a regulated bus of +140 VDC, enabling connected drives to maintain constant torque across their operating speed range. Available continuous output reaches 490 W, based on the heat-dissipation limits and copper losses within the supply. For steady loads, it can provide 3.5 A of DC current, while the input accepts North American or international mains power at 115/230 VAC without jumper changes. Energy is buffered by a bulk capacitor rated at 6,800 µF. This capacitance reduces voltage sag during rapid load changes and absorbs regenerative surges, so an external braking resistor is not always required.
Short bursts of motion are supported by a peak capability of 2.5 times the nominal current, which is available for one second within a 20% duty cycle. Safety margins include transformer-to-chassis isolation verified at 4 kV, while upstream protection is coordinated with a 15 A breaker to clear faults without nuisance trips. A 6.8 kΩ bleeder network discharges the capacitors when power is removed, and the no-load bus voltage is 159 VDC. Ripple remains below 2% of the bus voltage with a rated single-phase input frequency of 50/60 Hz. The enclosure measures 7.0 × 11.5 inches, allowing installation on crowded cabinet backplates while leaving room for adjacent drive and control components.
