Product Description:
The PST-040-13-DP-E is a linear, unregulated DC power supply built by Copley Controls for the PST Power Supplies series. It receives utility power and delivers a DC bus that supports servo amplifiers, motion controllers, and other low-voltage automation loads. An internal toroidal transformer steps down the incoming voltage before rectification, and the simple power topology minimizes conducted electrical noise. The front panel houses a thermal time-delay circuit breaker for branch protection and a switch for selecting the input voltage range.
The input is switch-selectable between 115/230 VAC, allowing the supply to operate from either common service voltage without internal rewiring. The unit accepts single-phase mains at 50/60 Hz, making it compatible with widely available electrical grids. Power enters through screw terminals before passing through the toroidal transformer and rectifier network. Under load, the supply provides an output of +40 VDC with a continuous current capacity of 13 A. This current and voltage combination provides 520 W of available power for connected drives, fans, or I/O rails. At full load, the output remains within a ±2% ripple range, meeting typical servo amplifier requirements. The linear topology also provides a predictable dynamic response without high-frequency switching artifacts.
For short acceleration demands, the bus can provide 2.5 times its rated output for 1 second at a 20% duty cycle, allowing motors to draw additional current without an external capacitor bank. The internal capacitance of 47,000 µF supports these temporary surges and helps maintain a no-load output of 45 VDC while the system is idle. A 15 A thermal time-delay breaker responds to sustained overcurrent while allowing brief operating transients. Screw terminals provide secure connection points for field wiring, and as many as six amplifiers can share the supply when their combined continuous current remains within the available output. A recessed toggle controls voltage selection and reduces the chance of accidental changes. The internal transformer also helps keep leakage current and electromagnetic emissions low during operation.
