The JSP-180-30 motor controller is produced by Copley Controls as part of the Junus Motor Controllers series. Designed for brushed or brushless servomotors, it converts DC bus power into a high-frequency PWM output for controlling torque, velocity, or position in industrial axes. The unit interfaces with PLCs and motion cards, providing signal amplification and fault protection so automated machines can command precise motion while monitoring drive status.
During continuous operation, the controller delivers 15 A DC of motor phase current while drawing 13.6 A DC from the supply, resulting in 2.56 kW of continuous output power. The DC link may rise to 180 V DC, so the installation must use appropriately rated cabling and protective devices. Commands enter through differential analog inputs with an effective impedance of 66 kΩ, minimizing the electrical load on the upstream controller. A 12-bit analog reference path provides 4,096 discrete command levels for accurate control. Internally, a PWM carrier operating at 20 kHz switches the power stage, while a minimum pulse width of 220 ns helps keep current ripple low. The drive’s supervisory circuitry limits peak-current events to 1 second and coordinates their interruption with external fault logic.
For short bursts, the amplifier supplies up to 30 A DC of motor current and produces as much as 5.12 kW at the output terminals to accelerate inertial loads or overcome stiction. Thermal protection includes an overtemperature trip set at 70 °C. Once this threshold is reached, gate switching is disabled until the heat sink cools, helping prevent semiconductor damage in compact panels. The module weighs only 0.30 kg, allowing DIN rail or bulkhead mounting without additional cabinet reinforcement. Digital outputs rated at 1 A DC use integrated 1 kΩ pull-up resistors to communicate drive status to safety relays or controllers. A 40 kHz current-ripple frequency supports smooth torque delivery when the controller operates with low-inductance motors.
