The Copley Controls JSP-180-20 is a motor controller in the Junus Motor Controllers series with a rated bus voltage of 180 VDC and a continuous output power of 1.73 kW. The JSP-180-20 is a single-axis motor controller produced by Copley Controls and supplied within the Junus Motor Controllers series. It regulates current, velocity, and position for brushless or brushed servomotors in industrial automation lines, using a DC bus to transform plant power into high-frequency pulse-width-modulated drive signals. The module connects PLC or motion-card commands to the motor phase conductors and integrates analog and digital I/O to simplify machine wiring.
An analog command path with an input impedance of 66 kΩ is digitized at 12-bit resolution for precise setpoint conversion. The power stage draws 9.07 Adc continuously and can deliver 10 Adc to the motor windings while maintaining a thermal steady state. Under those conditions, the drive supports 1.73 kW of continuous mechanical output and operates from a DC link at 180 Vdc. The current loop updates at 20 kHz, providing tight torque control during rapid load changes. These parameters are synchronized with a 20 kHz PWM carrier. The design maintains stability even when minimum pulse suppression and dead time are applied to protect the transistor bridge.
For short duty bursts, the amplifier supplies 20 Adc and can furnish 3.41 kW for up to 1 s before returning to its continuous ratings. Velocity regulation updates at 4 kHz to coordinate with the faster torque loop. The output driver sinks up to 1 Adc and withstands 40 Vdc, enabling direct actuation of brakes or relays. PWM activity also produces a 40 kHz ripple component and has a minimum pulse width of 220 ns. These switching characteristics influence motor iron loss and acoustic emissions. The short-duration output supports rapid acceleration and other transient load demands without changing the controller’s continuous operating limits.
