The JSP-180-10 is a DC-bus motor controller manufactured by Copley Controls for the Junus Motor Controllers series. It conditions incoming DC power and modulates three-phase outputs so brushless or brushed servomotors can track commanded torque and speed profiles in automated machinery. Operating from supply levels ranging from 20 VDC to a maximum of 180 VDC, the unit can be used on battery test stands or fixed industrial DC links without additional power conversion. The internal control processor executes real-time current and velocity loops, allowing indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, and constant-speed conveyors to maintain accurate motion under varying loads.
At the command interface, an analog input impedance of 66 kΩ minimizes loading on the connected control source, while a 12-bit converter digitizes reference signals into 4,096 steps. During continuous operation, the drive supplies 5 A DC, corresponding to a thermally rated output of 0.87 kW when the full bus voltage is available. Fast torque response is supported by a current-loop bandwidth of 3 kHz and an internal update rate of 20 kHz, allowing rapid correction of current errors. A 4 kHz velocity loop stabilizes motor speed when the mechanical load changes. The power stage uses a 20 kHz pulse-width modulation carrier to regulate the motor output. Its minimum pulse width is 220 ns, and the resulting 40 kHz ripple component helps keep switching artifacts outside most mechanical resonance bands.
For brief acceleration demands, the controller can deliver 10 A DC for one second, raising motor torque to overcome inertia or static friction. At that peak current, the electrical output reaches 1.73 kW, providing additional power for rapid acceleration moves without changing the continuous-duty rating. An onboard temperature sensor enforces an overtemperature threshold of 70 °C to protect the power stage from excessive heat. As the threshold is approached, the controller can reduce output current or initiate a controlled shutdown while maintaining orderly motor control. This protective response is useful during temporary overloads, restricted cabinet airflow, or elevated operating temperatures that could otherwise place excessive thermal stress on internal components.
