The JSP-090-10 is a DC-bus motor controller produced by Copley Controls within the Junus Motor Controllers series. Intended for servo and stepper applications, the module converts a 20–90 Vdc supply into high-frequency PWM outputs that regulate torque, velocity, and position in industrial automation systems such as pick-and-place axes or small gantries. As a panel-mounted unit, it interfaces with drive electronics through analog commands and digital I/O, giving machine builders a compact way to close current and velocity loops at the drive level while the supervisory PLC handles sequencing.
At the power stage, the drive delivers a continuous motor phase current of 5 Adc, supporting a sustained electrical output of 0.43 kW without derating. The DSP refreshes the inner current loop at 20 kHz, so torque demand changes are rapidly converted into PWM duty updates. Command inputs enter through a 12-bit analog channel, while the high-impedance 66 kΩ front end minimizes loading on upstream motion controllers. The isolated digital output can sink 1 Adc, enabling direct control of brakes or relays connected to the controller. Under transient load spikes, the amplifier supplies a peak current of 10 Adc, yielding up to 0.85 kW for brief acceleration. The outer velocity loop is recalculated at 4 kHz to stabilize speed between current updates.
Short-term overloads are limited to a 1 s window, preventing excessive junction heating during acceleration cycles. Internal sensors trigger thermal cutback at 70 °C, after which the controller reduces its output to protect the power devices. The DC input bus accepts voltages as high as 90 Vdc and as low as 20 Vdc, allowing operation from battery stacks or unregulated industrial power supplies. Pulse-width generation uses the control loop carrier, while a 220 ns minimum pulse width keeps switching commands within safe operating limits. The resulting 40 kHz ripple frequency supports effective current regulation for most low-inductance servomotors.
