The 800-1566 motor controller is produced by Copley Controls for the Junus Motor Controllers series. It mounts close to the load and translates position or velocity references from a motion processor into tightly regulated phase currents, making it suitable for brushless or brushed servomotors in packaging machines, pick-and-place axes, or precision conveyors. By integrating signal conditioning, power switching, and protection logic in a 130 × 82 × 31 mm housing, the unit forms the core drive element within a distributed automation rack.
Analog motion commands enter through a differential input that accepts ±10 VDC differential signals and are digitized with a 12-bit converter. The command port presents an impedance of 66 kΩ, minimizing the load on upstream electronics. A current regulator closes at 20 kHz, while a separate velocity loop updates at 4 kHz to damp mechanical resonance. Motor phases are energized by a MOSFET H-bridge, and five optically isolated digital inputs permit limit, home, or enable functions; one digital output returns drive status to a PLC. Center-weighted pulse-width modulation uses the same carrier frequency to reduce common-mode noise and switching loss.
An overtemperature latch trips at 70 °C, and the drive can sustain rated peak current for 1 second before foldback engages. The minimum PWM on-time is 220 ns, coordinating with the 40 kHz ripple component that results from center-weighted switching. Host configuration is handled through an RJ-11 6P4C serial jack, while feedback and auxiliary signals terminate on a 15-position D-sub female connector. The compact enclosure supports installation near the controlled motor, which can shorten phase wiring and simplify routing within the machine. Its synchronized current and velocity loops limit audible noise and maintain smooth torque production across a wide speed range.
