The 7425AC-FH servo amplifier is built by Copley Controls and belongs to the DC Servo Amplifiers series. It translates low-level velocity or torque commands from a motion controller into precisely regulated phase currents for brushless DC motors used in pick-and-place heads, indexing tables, and other position-critical axes. By placing the power stage near the motor and closing the current loop at high speed, the module offloads control tasks from the PLC while maintaining repeatable torque production throughout the duty cycle.
The amplifier can deliver a continuous output of 10 A, allowing a medium-frame servo motor to run at rated torque without overheating. For transient acceleration or load shocks, it supports a peak of 20 A, giving a two-to-one overload margin that shortens move times. The internal current regulator closes at 3 kHz, so commanded torque tracks reference changes within microseconds and keeps disturbance rejection high. Pulse-width modulation occurs at 20 kHz, moving the switching artifacts beyond most audible ranges and reducing ripple current in the motor windings. An output stage based on IGBT devices handles these switching duties while maintaining low conduction losses.
Thermal management is aided by an installed heat sink that provides a thermal resistance of 0.6 °C/W between the semiconductors and ambient air, so cabinet airflow can keep junction temperatures within safe limits during sustained operation. The module measures 7.50 in in width, and its height of 6.94 in fits easily into 19-inch subpanels, while the 4.72 in depth leaves clearance for rear wiring. Dedicated 25-position and 15-position D-sub connectors route command signals and Hall feedback. A nine-position power strip simplifies DC bus and motor phase terminations without requiring additional breakout boards.
