Product Description:
The 5224AC DC servo amplifier is built by Copley Controls for the DC Servo Amplifiers series. It interfaces between a single-phase mains supply and brushed servo motors in industrial automation cells. The unit converts command voltages from motion controllers into controlled armature current so positioning, tensioning, and speed loops remain accurate during load changes and reversals.
The power stage runs from a nominal 115 VAC line and supplies a continuous motor current of 10 A, with momentary output rising to 20 A during acceleration spikes. A small-signal bandwidth of 3 kHz helps the amplifier respond quickly to command changes, while 25 kHz PWM reduces audible noise from the motor. A minimum load inductance of 400 µH limits current ripple, the reference input passes through a 94 kΩ divider, and the logic interface treats voltages above 2.5 V as high.
Protection circuitry halts operation if the DC bus falls below 45 VDC or rises above 195 VDC, which helps shield internal components from supply anomalies. Thermal sensors open the gate drive at 70 °C, and the amplifier resumes operation after the heatsink cools to a safe level. Once the enable line is asserted, full current regulation is established within 1 ms, and fault logic cooperates with the voltage monitors to force a controlled shutdown when needed.
