Product Description:
The 412CE is a compact DC servo amplifier from Copley Controls that belongs to the DC Servo Amplifiers series. It conditions low-level motion commands from a controller into bidirectional current for brushed or brushless DC motors used in industrial automation axes such as pick-and-place slides, labeling heads, and miniature conveyors. The unit provides closed-loop current control and protective monitoring, allowing motors to receive precise torque while the drive supervises supply and thermal limits. Its compact format supports installation in space-constrained control enclosures where accurate motor regulation is required.
During continuous operation, the amplifier can supply 10 A of motor current, and it tolerates momentary loads up to 20 A during acceleration or shock events. Current is switched through a MOSFET bridge at a 25 kHz PWM rate; this high carrier frequency reduces audible noise and lowers the ripple delivered to the motor. The current-mode loop has a bandwidth of 3 kHz, while velocity or position loops that rely on voltage feedback are limited to 200 Hz. The low output resistance of 0.2 Ω minimizes internal dissipation, and the input power at continuous current is 25 W. Command signals enter through a ±20 V reference port with an impedance of 100 kΩ, allowing connection to common analog motion controllers without placing an excessive load on the command source.
Thermal protection activates at 70 °C, and the circuitry isolates the load if the bus exceeds 92 V or falls below 22 V, helping prevent damage from unstable supplies. The amplifier weighs only 0.59 lb, easing installation on DIN rails or in tight enclosures. Logic enable signals connect to PLC I/O through inputs with 10 kΩ resistance and a 2.5 V switching threshold. An automatic reset clears latched faults after a 50 ms interval, allowing operation to resume without manual intervention when acceptable conditions return. These protective functions monitor voltage, temperature, and control status without requiring additional external relays or sensors.
