The MP4-055-03 is a motion controller produced by Copley Controls for the Bantam M-Axis Controllers series. It combines power stages with embedded control logic to drive multiple servo axes from a single compact module, streamlining cabinet layouts in automated assembly, packaging, and laboratory equipment. In an industrial automation setting, the controller translates high-level position or velocity commands into precise current regulation, allowing coordinated motor operation without external amplifier racks. Because control and power electronics are integrated in one unit, the system can reduce interconnect length between the controller and the attached motors. This format is well suited to compact equipment where several axes must share one controller while maintaining synchronized response.
Internally, the controller allocates 4 fully independent axes, and each axis is supported by a continuous output of 3 Adc so matched motors can run under steady load without overheating the output stage. The current loop hardware samples at 12.5 kHz, enabling rapid correction of phase errors and accurate torque control even on low-inductance windings. It also provides 24 optically isolated high-speed inputs for machine status or sensor feedback, along with 8 MOSFET outputs for actuator or relay commands. Optical isolation helps separate field signals from the motion electronics, which improves noise immunity around switching devices. This arrangement allows the controller to coordinate axis motion with sensors, interlocks, and peripheral devices.
For proper commutation, the connected motor phase inductance must not fall below 200 µH, which helps keep the current regulator stable at the fixed PWM frequency. During transient moves, the output stage can sustain its peak rating for 1 s before returning to continuous limits. The high-voltage rail accepts supplies from +14 Vdc up to +55 Vdc, allowing the same controller to operate in battery-based mobile platforms or fixed installations with rectified bus lines. The housing measures 101.6 × 76.2 × 20.83 mm, which helps conserve panel depth while still providing screw terminals and ribbon connectors for wiring. Its compact enclosure also fits applications where control hardware must be installed in shallow spaces or tightly packed assemblies.
