The ME4-055-03 is a four-axis motion controller manufactured by Copley Controls within the Bantam M-Axis Controllers series. Designed for cabinet or machine-mounted use, the module combines servo amplification, high-speed networking, and logic I/O handling to drive brushless, voice-coil, or stepper stages in automated equipment. It links directly to an EtherCAT master and executes embedded current, position, and velocity loops, allowing coordinated trajectories, electronic gearing, and precise standstill holding in compact packaging lines, electronics assembly platforms, and laboratory automation devices.

Each axis can source a peak phase current of up to 3 A DC, governed by a current loop that updates at 12.5 kHz. Command data streams into the processor at 2 MHz, providing bandwidth for higher-order interpolation, and the position loop refreshes at 2.5 kHz for precise following-error control. The PWM bridge superimposes a 25 kHz ripple component to reduce motor noise. For machine-level signals, the controller offers 24 optically isolated digital inputs, eight MOSFET outputs, one SPI slave port, and four SPI master ports. A dedicated 500 mA rail powers external encoders. Deterministic communication occurs over an EtherCAT interface that uses 100BASE-TX copper networking.

Each MOSFET channel can switch loads up to 300 mA DC at a bus voltage of 30 V DC, removing the need for external relay boards. The quadrature decoder accepts encoder feedback at 2 million lines per second, so fine-pitch linear scales can be sampled without losing counts. When multiple axes brake simultaneously, the shared DC link tolerates 12 A DC of peak incoming current, allowing it to absorb regenerated energy without nuisance trips.
