The IES-060-30 is a compact DC motor drive produced by Copley Controls within the Bantam M-Axis Controllers series. It converts low-voltage bus power into regulated phase current so that individual rotary or linear axes in pick-and-place stations, gantries, and small robotics can be positioned with closed-loop precision. By combining power electronics with high-speed digital control on a compact board, the unit provides responsive motion performance for space-restricted automation panels.
The electrical envelope spans from 14 Vdc to 60 Vdc, allowing the same drive to operate from battery packs, rectified 24 V supplies, or higher 48 V buses without adjustment. A continuous output of 15 Adc supports steady-state loads, while a peak capability of 30 Adc is available for up to one second to overcome inertial surges during startup. The current loop is refreshed at 16 kHz, and the PWM stage uses the same carrier rate so commanded torque is reproduced with minimal phase lag. Sensed current is digitized with 12-bit resolution, providing fine granularity for oscillation damping and servo tuning. The drive delivers up to 250 mAdc to encoder electronics. It also accepts incremental encoder feedback at 5 MHz, ensuring that high-resolution position data are captured without missed counts.
A position or velocity loop running at 4 kHz operates above the current regulator, supplying bandwidth for rapid trajectory changes. Motor compatibility is supported by a required minimum load inductance of 100 µH, which keeps switching ripple within predictable limits; ripple products appear at 32 kHz and remain outside most mechanical resonance bands. The thermal design allows full-power operation until the ambient temperature reaches 70 °C, after which derating is recommended. The drive has a mass of only 45 g, easing installation on moving carriages where added weight directly affects acceleration and positioning response.
