Product Description:

The IEL-060-15 is a single-axis motion controller produced by Copley Controls for the Bantam M-Axis Controllers series. It drives brushless, brushed DC, or stepper motors in automated machinery, converting command signals into regulated phase currents so that position and velocity follow host commands. By integrating power amplification, loop processing, and I/O in one module, the unit simplifies cabinet layouts and supports compact industrial robots, conveyors, and laboratory instruments that require precise torque regulation.

The amplifier delivers a continuous output of 7.5 A DC and can reach a peak output of 15 A DC for up to 1 s to handle acceleration surges. Current regulation is enforced by a control loop with a small-signal bandwidth of 2.5 kHz, while internal calculations are refreshed at 16 kHz. This combination minimizes phase lag between the commanded and actual motor currents. A 5.05 kΩ analog front end receives external command signals, while the minimum supported load inductance of 100 µH prevents excessive ripple. Separate brake outputs each provide 1 A DC to hold vertical loads. The PWM carrier produces a 32 kHz ripple component to keep audible noise low, and position updates run at 4 kHz so the drive can follow high-frequency trajectory points without discontinuities.

An analog input range of ±10 V DC allows direct speed or torque references from PLCs. For stepper modes, the controller accepts pulse trains up to 2 MHz. Quadrature feedback is read at 8 Mcounts/s, allowing rapid tracking of encoder transitions during high-speed motion. The encoder interface includes a 250 mA DC supply for connected feedback devices. Digital current sensing operates with 12-bit resolution, and the same conversion hardware feeds a software oversampler that reduces quantization noise. Synchronization between computation and switching helps the current regulator respond consistently as motor speed and commanded torque change.
