The ASP-180-18 is a compact DC-powered motion drive manufactured by Copley Controls and supplied in the Accelus Servo Drives series. Designed for panel-mounted use, the unit accepts command signals from CNC, PLC, or standalone controllers and regulates current, velocity, and position loops for brushless or stepper motors. By converting a wide-range DC bus into precise pulse-width-modulated phases, it enables tight speed control and accurate positioning in pick-and-place gantries, electronic assembly axes, and other industrial automation stages.
Analog command compatibility starts with an input impedance of 66 kΩ, limiting source loading while preserving signal fidelity, and a converter resolution of 12 bits that yields 4,096 discrete levels for proportional torque demand. The internal current loop refreshes at 20 kHz, allowing fast rejection of load disturbances. Under continuous duty, the power stage delivers 6 Adc to the motor phases and sustains an output of 1.06 kW, which is sufficient for medium-frame servomotors used in material-handling carts or small presses. Pulse-width modulation operates at 40 kHz, keeping audible noise low and reducing torque ripple, while the velocity and position regulators update at 4 kHz to maintain trajectory accuracy during rapid indexing.
Short-term demands are covered by a peak output of 18 Adc that can be maintained for one second, enabling quick acceleration of high-inertia loads without oversizing the supply. During these bursts, the drive can provide up to 3.15 kW of mechanical power, drawing from a DC bus that may reach 180 Vdc while remaining operational down to 20 Vdc for low-voltage applications. Thermal protection is integrated into the drive. The control board triggers an overtemperature shutdown at 70 °C to prevent component stress and preserve long-term reliability when cabinet airflow is restricted.
