Product Description:
The ASP-090-09 is a single-axis digital servo drive manufactured by Copley Controls within the Accelus Servo Drives series. It functions as a compact power stage and motion processor that receives step, analog, or network commands and produces three-phase output for brushless servo motors used in pick-and-place units, packaging actuators, and other industrial automation axes. By closing current, velocity, and position loops internally, the drive relieves the PLC or motion controller of high-speed regulation duties while safeguarding the connected motor with programmable limits.
At the heart of the control section is a 20 kHz current loop that modulates the output transistors so torque follows command with minimal delay. During steady operation, the drive supplies a continuous phase current of 3 Adc (2.1 Arms), yet it can deliver a peak of 9 Adc (6.4 Arms) for up to 1 second to overcome inertia or friction. Oversampling occurs on a 12-bit analog input whose 66 kΩ impedance eases sensor loading. Digital feedback is handled by an encoder counter that accepts 20 Mcount/s, while step-and-direction commands may enter at 2 MHz. Pulse-width modulation is switched at a 40 kHz ripple frequency so audible noise is reduced, and the internal velocity and position loop updates at 4 kHz for consistent axis stiffness. A 90 Vdc maximum bus allows use on higher-voltage DC supplies without derating.
Electrical energy is processed across a DC link that accepts supply levels down to 20 Vdc, making the unit compatible with low-voltage mobile or battery-backed platforms. From that range, it converts power into a continuous mechanical rating of 0.27 kW and can momentarily raise output to 0.79 kW when commanded, provided the external source can furnish the 10 Adc input peak current demanded during acceleration. The aluminum chassis measures 167.1 x 98.81 x 29.72 mm, allowing high-density installation on machine panels where airflow is restricted and weight constraints favor short, fanless drives.
