Internal Product Review

The VM60/EB is an amplifier drive that stands out for efficient thermal control with forced ventilation and an 80 m3/h air flow rate. Rated operation at 60 A up to 45 C and 150 A peak current gives the unit strong headroom for demanding drive cycles. A very capable choice for high-performance motion systems, especially with 1000 W continuous braking power.

Product Description:

The VM60/EB amplifier module is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the VM Amplifier Drives series. It sits between the motion controller and the motor armature, regulating the power that reaches servo axes in industrial assembly cells, packaging lines, and material-handling stations. By converting DC-bus energy into controlled current pulses, the unit delivers precise torque commands while its forced-ventilation housing allows installation inside crowded control cabinets. Used with external braking resistors and system blowers, the module sustains continuous regenerative and motoring operation without exceeding permitted thermal limits.

The primary operating envelope is centered on a nominal output of 60 A at 45 °C. When the enclosure temperature climbs toward the specified ceiling, the amplifier limits steady conduction to 30 A, allowing safe operation at the highest permitted heat load. Transient mechanical shocks can be accommodated because the drive can supply up to 150 A for short periods, giving servomotors extra acceleration torque. Dynamic braking energy is absorbed internally at a continuous level of 1000 W, reducing the need for external choppers in repetitive deceleration cycles. All blower electronics are powered from a dedicated 24 VDC supply so the cooling circuit remains independent of the main drive bus.

The blower moves 80 m3/h of air across the heat sinks, and the fan draws only 100 mA, which minimizes auxiliary power demand on the control cabinet's 24 V rail. To prevent recirculation, a vertical clearance of 100 mm above the module is required so exhaust air can escape without obstruction. Cabinet temperature must not exceed 55 °C. Staying below this point keeps semiconductor junctions within their rated limits and preserves the current and braking capacities described above.
