The VAM21.1-S3-NF-NN-TB-TA-VD-NN operator panel is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the VAM Machine Operator Panels series. It mounts on the machine front and offers tactile keys, selector switches, and status LEDs that let personnel interact with the control without opening the cabinet. Integrated I/O electronics accept field signals, drive indicator lamps, and forward data to the higher-level controller, so the unit works as both an HMI and a distributed I/O station. This arrangement keeps routine machine commands and status indication at the operating position instead of inside the enclosure. It also groups local control functions in one panel opening, which helps maintain a clean machine face.
For real-time exchange, the panel links to the drive or PLC network over SERCOS III. It provides 16 digital inputs for limit switches or E-stop circuits, along with matching outputs for pilot lights or contactor coils. All channels use a field voltage of 24 V DC, and their combined load must stay below 3.5 A maximum. The logic section, powered by the same nominal voltage, draws only 0.3 A, so the control electronics remain isolated from load surges. Power for auxiliary lamps or relays is protected by a 4 A fuse that can be replaced from the rear side. Feed override is handled by a rotary switch offering 24 feed override positions, while a separate spindle override knob supplies sixteen discrete steps read over the bus. Six switching elements, each 22.5 mm wide, accept standard contact blocks for custom functions. The aluminum and plastic enclosure weighs only 1940 g, keeping additional load on articulated operator arms to a minimum.
