Product Description:
Bosch Rexroth Indramat designs the TDA 1.3-100-3-D0D main spindle controller, a member of the TDA Main Spindle Controllers series. This drive module supervises torque and speed on spindle motors used in machining centers, grinders, and similar equipment. It accepts numerical setpoints from the machine control, modulates the shared DC bus, and provides regulated three-phase current so the connected spindle follows programmed profiles during cutting and positioning operations. Closed-loop regulation helps the spindle respond consistently when cutting loads rise or fall during machining. This operating behavior is useful in machine tools that need stable speed control during both material removal and axis positioning.
The controller can supply a continuous armature current of 70 A, enabling steady output during extended rough-machining cycles, while its short-term rating reaches 100 A for rapid acceleration or tapping moves. Energy is distributed through an intermediate circuit held at 300 VDC, allowing compact cabinet conductors while preserving power density. Command information enters through a 16-bit parallel digital interface, eliminating analog conversion delays between the CNC and the drive. Control electronics draw 1.4 A from the +24 V bus, a figure that helps when sizing auxiliary supplies in multi-axis installations. Protection is limited to IP10, which blocks large foreign objects but requires installation inside a closed electrical cabinet for full protection. The digital command path also supports direct data transfer between the control and the power stage without relying on analog reference scaling.
The housing stands 390 mm tall, is 150 mm wide, and extends 355 mm deep, which helps with enclosure planning. At 10.5 kg, the unit remains manageable during installation and the mass supplies thermal inertia during load spikes. Continuous duty is supported up to 45 °C ambient and 1000 m altitude, and operation beyond these levels requires current derating to maintain safe junction temperatures. Motor terminals are tightened to 5 Nm, and an auxiliary ±15 V rail at 160 mA is available for encoder simulation or diagnostic probes. These physical and operating limits should be considered when arranging cabinet clearance, airflow, and supporting control circuitry around the spindle drive.
