It provides closed-loop control of machine-tool spindle motors, delivering the current and velocity regulation required for turning, milling, or grinding centers. Integrated power electronics, feedback handling, and command interfaces let the unit act as the drive stage between a supervisory CNC and the spindle, turning digital motion commands into controlled three-phase motor currents.
The drive’s power section is rated for 50 A, while it can maintain a continuous current of 35 A without exceeding thermal limits. A regulated 300 VDC intermediate circuit forms the energy reservoir for rapid torque changes, and a dedicated blower connection at 220 VAC supplies forced airflow through the heat sink. Because the cooling method uses air drawn from inside the control cabinet, installation must preserve unrestricted circulation. The enclosure classification of IP 10 indicates protection against accidental finger contact, but it does not provide dust or liquid sealing. The control electronics draw a ±15 V test current of 160 mA and require a 24 V logic supply that can furnish 1.2 A for relays, optocouplers, and sensor excitation.
In operation, the controller accepts a speed command as an analog ±10 V signal and a digital 16-bit parallel position word that selects among 3,600 discrete spindle index points. An auxiliary encoder input lets the numerical control verify actual shaft position during thread cutting or rigid tapping. The unit remains functional at ambient temperatures up to +55 °C and installation heights up to 1,000 m without current derating. With a transport mass of 10.5 kg, the module fits a single 300 mm rack space. Internal air circulation, fine position resolution, and encoder monitoring support accurate spindle orienting during automatic tool changes.
