The TDA 1.3-050-3-A0S is a main spindle controller in the TDA Main Spindle Controllers series manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat. It is installed in machining centers to regulate spindle speed and torque, translating velocity commands from the CNC into controlled three-phase power for the motor. By converting low-level analog references into high-current outputs, the unit forms the link between the numerical control and the electromechanical spindle drive.

The power section is designed for a peak output of 50 A, while its thermal design supports a continuous effective current of 35 A to keep the spindle within rated load limits. A DC bus maintained at 300 VDC stores regenerated energy and feeds the inverter bridge. Internal cooling air is supplied by an external blower that requires 220 VAC, which helps prevent heat accumulation during extended duty cycles. Control electronics draw a steady 1.2 A from the machine’s 24-volt supply, and a separate ±15 V rail carries 160 mA for test points and sensor stages. The speed command is an analog ±10 V signal that feeds the vector control loop, while a built-in RS-232C port allows parameter loading or diagnostic capture. There is no auxiliary encoder socket, so feedback wiring is limited to the primary spindle encoder only. For safety, the ground bus must be bonded with a 10 mm² grounding conductor, and each motor stud is tightened to 5 Nm. Vertical mounting keeps access to the connections and service points open.

The enclosure tolerates ambient temperatures up to +55 °C without derating, and operation is permitted up to 1000 m above sea level. The enclosure has an IP10 protection rating, so the drive must be installed in a filtered cabinet. At 10.5 kg, the controller adds enough mass to help damp panel vibration while remaining suitable for cabinet mounting.
