It regulates spindle motors in machine tools, delivering closed-loop speed and position control so the cutting process maintains commanded feed rates and surface finishes. By converting stored DC bus energy into three-phase motor power while processing encoder feedback, the unit serves as the core drive for spindle applications that require stable speed control during acceleration, cutting, and deceleration. This arrangement allows the controller to react to changing spindle load quickly while maintaining coordinated motor operation.
The controller is rated for 50 A peak output, and its continuous output is limited to 35 A to keep the power stage within thermal limits. Its intermediate circuit operates at DC 300 V from a shared supply, while internal diagnostics use a ±15 V test rail with 160 mA draw and a 24 V logic rail that supports 1.2 A of load current. Speed references are accepted as an analog ±10 V command and pass through a programmable filter before the PWM stage. A 37-way D-sub connector carries control I/O signals, and a separate 15-pin socket handles motor feedback, with the encoder channel able to switch between spindle feedback and a second motor channel.
