The SOT02-E2A-AS is a station operator terminal produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the SOT Operator Panels series. It serves as the interface point between machine controllers and operators, allowing parameter entry, alarm acknowledgment, and status review directly on the production floor. By combining a small display, keypad, and serial connectivity in one enclosure, the unit simplifies human-machine interaction in distributed industrial cells. This arrangement lets routine interaction take place at the machine instead of requiring access to a separate control cabinet.

The terminal presents process data on a 16-line display that fits within a viewing window measuring 4-7/8 × 2-3/4 in. Readability in plant lighting is maintained through a cold cathode fluorescent backlight, and the standard membrane keyboard supports rapid numeric and function entry. Program variables, messages, and user menus reside in onboard memory; the panel provides 512 KB of RAM for this purpose, eliminating the need for external storage in many mid-sized applications. The unit also provides 8 digital outputs, allowing operators to activate stack lights or other low-power indicators directly from the station. This helps the panel support both display duties and simple control signaling in the same location.

Data shown on the screen is updated over an RS-485 link that operates in half-duplex mode on a single twisted pair, supporting multidrop wiring runs up to 1000 m between the host PLC and the last panel. For bench testing or nearby equipment, a separate RS-232 service port permits cable lengths of about 15 m. The panel’s field terminals supply a logic output of 24 Vdc, allowing contact wetting of the onboard outputs without an auxiliary supply. This combination of serial communication options supports both longer machine-level networks and short local service connections. It also helps the terminal fit into installations where simple wiring and direct operator access are important.
