The S20-SSI-AO-1/1 function module supports a single SSI interface for encoder data acquisition. It connects using a push in connection and 4 wire, shielded twisted pair cable. The interface adheres to RS 422 standards in accordance with the SSI specification. It supports both single-turn and multi-turn encoders as well as length measuring sticks. The encoder signals can be read with resolutions ranging from 8 to 56 bits. The module supports both gray code and binary code formats. It allows a parameterizable clock frequency from 62.5 kHz to 2 MHz with a default of 125 kHz. The supported frequencies include 62.5 kHz, 125 kHz, 250 kHz, 500 kHz, 1 MHz and 2 MHz. It provides flexibility in parity settings including even, odd or no parity. The encoder data update depends on the encoder configuration, clock frequency and data length used. The module is equipped with electronic surge protection rated at 35 V permanent. It also includes electronic short circuit and overload protection. The input and output address area of the module is 12 bytes each. It is also configured for PROFIBUS systems requiring 29 bytes of parameter data and 7 bytes of configuration data.
