The S20-S3-BK+ is a communication coupler module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the S20 IndraControl Modules series. By translating Sercos telegrams into the local S20 backplane format, it links distributed I/O slices to central motion controllers and delivers 24-volt logic power to each slice. This gateway function lets sensors and actuators mounted along a machine rail participate in synchronized drive applications without requiring standalone fieldbus hardware.
The module attaches to a separate bus base module that also provides IP20 enclosure protection. The NE housing measures 74 mm deep and 45 mm wide, keeping cabinet depth low. Communication with adjacent S20 slices occurs through an integrated bus connector on the base, while external field devices exchange data at 100 Mbps. Internal electronics receive power from a 24 V DC logic rail, and an onboard DC/DC stage produces a secondary 5 V ubus supply for downstream modules. Screw terminals accept conductors up to 1.5 mm², and each conductor requires a stripping length of 8 mm. Relay and MOSFET outputs on the slice stack may draw up to 8 A in total, so the connected cables must be sized appropriately.
The module stands 126.1 mm high and mounts vertically on a 35 mm DIN rail, allowing unobstructed airflow inside the cabinet. To keep the logic circuits stable, the incoming 24-volt source must maintain a tolerance of ±5 %. The ubus rail supplies 5 V to the internal S20 backplane without requiring user adjustment. Real-time communication with the host controller uses the Sercos network profile, supporting deterministic cycle times across the local bus. Toolless latching allows individual slices to be removed for maintenance while adjacent units remain energized. Front access to the enclosure simplifies field wiring without exposing live contacts.
