Product Description:
The S20-RS-UNI is a serial communication module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. It allows controllers on the local S20 bus to exchange process data with external devices that use asynchronous serial standards, making it a practical bridge between PLC backplanes and field instruments in industrial automation. The unit’s electronics occupy a compact section of DIN rail, so the module can sit beside digital and analog I/O slices without requiring additional cabinet space.
The module provides RS-232 and RS-485/422 interfaces and terminates field wiring through push-in connections that eliminate the need to tighten screws. Its enclosure has a protection rating of IP20, making it appropriate for installation inside a closed control panel. Power for the internal transceiver and logic is supplied from the local bus at 5 V DC. The terminal contacts support a maximum current of 8 A. The module is only 35 mm wide and 54 mm deep, matching the narrow housing format with a single terminal field used across the platform. Data is transferred on the bus in big-endian byte order, and at least one byte of process data is exchanged during every cycle to provide a consistent refresh for small payloads.
The housing stands 126.1 mm tall and carries a Type 3 mechanical classification. Feed-through connections accommodate conductors with cross-sectional areas up to 1.5 mm², and each conductor requires 8 mm of insulation to be stripped before insertion. Reliable operation is supported at temperatures from -25 °C to 60 °C, allowing the module to function in refrigerated storage areas and heated machine enclosures. The push-in terminals simplify conductor insertion while maintaining an orderly wiring arrangement within a densely populated control cabinet.
