The S20-PSDI-8/4 safe input module is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. It occupies one slot on an S20 remote I/O station and delivers safety-rated digital feedback to an IndraControl PLC, allowing emergency stop buttons, light curtains, and other protective devices to be connected directly on the machine floor. By translating field-level contact states into protocol frames on the S20 local bus, the unit helps machine builders meet performance level and SIL targets without separate hardwired relays.

Signal wiring is inserted with the Push-In Connection system, so conductors can be terminated without tools while vibration resistance is maintained. Internally, the spring contacts use a four-conductor topology, assigning separate pairs for the supply and input channels to simplify loop checks. Each input can carry up to 8 A, a load capacity that supports devices requiring higher pilot current, such as illuminated switches. The module provides 8 individually monitored channels that share a common safety domain to simplify the validation of dual-channel circuits. The module accepts field wiring up to 1.5 mm², allowing standard control cabinet cabling to be used without ferrules. Input states are time-stamped and forwarded through the bus base module that forms the local backplane interface.

The wire insulation only needs to be stripped to 8 mm, a short preparation length that reduces assembly time and preserves conductor integrity. For quick visual identification in densely populated racks, the I/O plug is molded in zinc yellow, RAL 1018, matching the color coding used throughout the series.
