The S20-PB-BK bus coupler is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. It links S20 local I/O slices to a higher-level PROFIBUS network, allowing programmable controllers to read sensors and command actuators over a single fieldbus trunk in industrial automation cells. As the head of an I/O station, the device translates cyclic process data between the controller and the modular backplane while distributing supply power across the rail.
On the network side, the module communicates over PROFIBUS DP, so it can be addressed as a standard slave in deterministic factory networks. The S20 local bus moves process frames at 100 Mbps, keeping internal throughput well ahead of the fieldbus. One station can accommodate up to 63 downstream devices, which expands I/O density without adding another coupler. Incoming control power is supplied at 24 V DC; the pluggable feed terminals support a continuous load of 8 A, enough to energize digital and analog slices on the rail. Wiring is secured with a push-in connection method that uses two spring contacts per conductor, eliminating the need for screw tightening. A separate bus base allows the electronic block to be replaced independently, and a recessed pushbutton provides a manual reset. A micro-USB service port provides access for device diagnostics.
The coupler derives logic power from the backplane at 5 V DC, keeping high-frequency circuits isolated from the 24-volt field feed. Its molded housing follows the NE pattern and is rated IP20, indicating finger-safe construction without protection against dust or water ingress. The housing measures 45 mm wide, 126.1 mm high, and 74 mm deep, allowing it to fit within a standard DIN-rail installation while leaving ventilation clearance between adjacent modules. Latching hooks integrated into the side walls simplify installation. Coding pins prevent incorrect orientation when the station is expanded.
