Product Description:
The S20-EC-BK is a bus coupler module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. The unit serves as an EtherCAT gateway, linking the S20 local bus to higher-level control networks so distributed I/O stations can be included in an automation architecture. By translating protocol timing and voltage levels, the module allows IndraControl digital and analog slices to exchange process data with motion controllers and PLCs.
The bus interface toward the station is implemented through a separate bus base, so the electronics can be removed without disturbing the field wiring. Field conductors connect to spring-cage push-in terminals that simplify tool-free installation and provide secure contact with the wiring block. On the network side, the coupler supports 100 Mbps full-duplex data flow over the EtherCAT network. Internally, the S20 local bus operates at 5 V DC, while the station logic receives power from the backplane at 24 V DC. Each signal contact on the upstream connector can carry up to 8 A, allowing power to be supplied to downstream modules without auxiliary feed-in blocks. Time-critical applications benefit from SM-synchronous and DC-synchronous operating modes that align local data refresh with fieldbus cycles.
The module measures 45 mm wide, 126.1 mm high, and 74 mm deep, allowing it to fit beside other S20 slices on a DIN rail without increasing enclosure depth. Two FE spring ground contacts bond the housing to protective earth when the coupler is secured to the rail. The molded NE housing has an IP20 rating and provides finger-safe protection when the cabinet door is open. Data exchange with the slice stack occurs through the bus base, which supports local module addressing and status propagation without additional cabling. The removable electronics can be lifted away while the terminal block and connected conductors remain in place, reducing the amount of wiring work required during service. Synchronization telegrams pass from the fieldbus to the local bus so connected slices can update their process data at coordinated intervals.
