Product Description:
The S20-DI-16/4 is a compact digital input module manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. Designed for rack-mounted distributed I/O stations, the unit converts field-level sensor states into protocol-ready bits for higher-level controllers on the Sercos or EtherNet/IP backplane. By occupying only one slot, the module supplies 16 discrete channels to machine builders who need fast, electrically isolated feedback from proximity switches, photo eyes, or mechanical contacts.
Each channel accepts a nominal input of 24 V DC and draws 2.4 mA, matching EN 61131-2 Type 1 and 3 switching characteristics for sensors with either current-sourcing or sinking outputs. Signals are routed through a push-in connection block that supports 2-, 3-, or 4-conductor wiring, so devices with dedicated supply returns can share the same terminal strip. The module integrates a default filter time of 500 µs, sufficient to debounce mechanical contacts while preserving response for fast optical sensors. With a maximum input frequency of 5 kHz, the 16-channel array can capture encoder reference marks or high-rate counting tasks without missed edges. A local backplane operating at 100 Mbps transfers the digitized states to the controller with minimal latency.
Backplane logic is powered from the Ubus rail at 5 V DC, while field energy is passed through the supply feed so sensors remain referenced to the same ground. Up to 4 A of module current can be drawn by the electronics and trunk supply, and a separate limit of 2 A is available to energize connected sensors, preventing brownouts on densely populated racks. The housing measures 54 mm deep, 53.6 mm wide, and 129.9 mm high, allowing side-by-side installation without exceeding the standard S20 clearance envelope. Despite the high channel density, the unit weighs 231 g, which keeps dynamic loading on linear or rotary cabinet sections low during machine movement.
