Product Description:
The S20-AI-8-RTD is a temperature acquisition module manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the S20 IndraControl Modules series. The unit plugs into the S20 backplane, where it serves as an expansion module for temperature-monitoring loops in industrial automation cells. It receives resistance signals from platinum or nickel probes and forwards the digitized values to a controller, enabling closed-loop supervision of thermal processes such as solder reflow, reactor heating, or cooling circuits.
A front width of 53.6 mm conserves cabinet space, while the 54 mm depth keeps wiring clear of neighboring modules. The vertical size reaches 126.1 mm, matching the height of other members of the S20 family so that ventilation slots align in a uniform stack. Internally, the device provides 8 inputs that are multiplexed and sampled in sequence. This channel count permits one module to supervise eight separate sensing points without external splitters. Each channel is an analog input, so the module measures the resistance delivered by the sensor, linearizes the reading according to RTD characteristics, and stores the result in the process image sent to the PLC.
The module uses a wide housing format identified by Bosch Rexroth as a type 2 housing, providing additional board area for signal-conditioning circuits while preserving the standard S20 height. Field wiring enters through a single plug connector arranged as one terminal field; this layout reduces installation time and provides a consistent clamp orientation across the channels. Because the module is intended exclusively for RTD sensors, it supplies the excitation current required to measure sensor resistance accurately. Internal linearization converts the measured resistance into a usable temperature value for the controller. Appropriate RTD wiring methods can also reduce measurement errors caused by lead resistance in industrial installations.
