Product Description:
The RZW03.1-200-015 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. It works with regenerative drive converters by converting surplus DC-bus energy into heat during rapid deceleration or when an overhauling load returns energy to the drive. This process helps prevent excessive DC-bus voltage in machining centers, packaging lines, and material-handling systems. The floor-standing steel enclosure has a standardized mounting pattern that allows installation beside high-power servo or inverter cabinets.
The resistor element has a resistance of 1.8 Ω and is intended for drive systems rated up to 200 kW. Its peak dissipation reaches 180 kW during short braking events such as emergency stops or rapid speed reductions. An operating duty of 15% SD limits the active braking period within each repeating duty cycle to control heat accumulation. The thermal time constant is 100 s, providing a reference for estimating the resistor’s heating and cooling response. The Design 1 housing measures 795 mm wide and 490 mm deep, while its 380 mm mounting depth establishes the spacing required for the attachment points. Application wiring must also maintain a minimum connectable resistance of 1.6 Ω to reduce the risk of excessive current and drive protection trips.
The enclosure has an IP23 protection rating, which guards against contact with hazardous internal parts, solid objects larger than the applicable size threshold, and water sprayed within the rated angle. It is intended for clean indoor industrial areas where the enclosure will not be exposed to heavy dust, direct washdown, or standing water. Under the stated operating duty, the finned surface should remain at or below 80 °C to protect nearby wiring and components from excessive heat. The internal bus bar accepts power conductors with cross-sectional areas up to 95 mm², supporting the current required when the resistor is connected to a compatible drive system. The unit has a mass of 112 kg, so suitable lifting equipment and secure floor anchoring are required during installation. The mounting area must provide 770 mm of width and 1100 mm of overall height, with additional clearance for ventilation, cable routing, and access to the electrical terminals.
