The RZW03.1-160-025 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and is part of the RZW Braking Resistors series. It is a discrete energy-dissipation module wired to the DC link of a frequency inverter or servo drive. When a connected motor regenerates, the resistor draws surplus current and converts the electrical energy into heat. This process prevents overvoltage conditions that could damage power semiconductors or trigger drive faults in industrial automation systems. Typical applications include conveyors, gantry axes, and packaging lines that require controlled deceleration or frequent braking. The resistor operates separately from the motor and provides the drive system with a controlled path for regenerated energy.
The unit is rated to absorb 160 kW during operation within its stated duty-cycle limits. It has a nominal resistance of 2.4 Ω, while the allowable minimum resistance is 2.2 Ω to account for production variation. The casing meets the IP23 ingress protection level, allowing top-down ventilation while protecting internal components against finger contact and sprayed water. The resistor grid may conduct for up to 30 seconds during each 120-second load window to keep the element temperature within acceptable limits. Power cables with conductor sizes up to 70 mm² can be clamped to the terminals without exceeding permissible conductor heating. Adequate clearance around the ventilated enclosure allows heat to escape during braking and the required idle period.

The power bars have an M10 terminal thread for securing ring lugs and maintaining low contact resistance during vibration or repeated braking cycles.
