The RZW03.1-132-015 is a panel-mounted braking resistor supplied by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. In an inverter-based axis, the unit converts regenerated electrical energy into heat so the drive can decelerate a motor without causing overvoltage at the DC link. By providing a controlled resistance path, it protects power electronics and connected machinery during the rapid stopping sequences common in automated production. Design code 1 identifies the mechanical layout used for this model. The resistor is intended for cabinet installation beside compatible converters.
The resistor has a continuous dissipation rating of 132 kW, allowing its grid to absorb large braking currents generated by high-power servo axes. The element has a cold resistance of 2.7 Ω, which determines the peak current flowing when the chopper transistor closes and helps the drive keep regenerated energy within safe limits. The duty cycle is limited to 15% SD, so the component can be energized for only a limited portion of each operating cycle to prevent thermal overload. A thermal time constant of 100 s indicates how quickly the housing temperature rises under load. The maximum permitted on-time is 18 s, limiting the duration of each braking event.
The required cooling interval between operating cycles is 102 s, allowing the internal elements to return to a stable temperature before the next pulse. The IP23 protection class guards live parts against finger contact and protects the unit from falling water, but the enclosure still requires indoor placement.
