Product Description:
The RZW03.1-055-006 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Installed on the DC link of a servo or inverter system, it converts surplus kinetic energy into heat whenever the connected drive decelerates. By providing a controlled discharge path, the unit keeps the intermediate circuit voltage within safe limits and protects power electronics during dynamic stopping sequences that are common in material-handling, packaging, and machine-tool applications. This arrangement is especially useful on axes that must absorb repeated bursts of regenerated energy during frequent braking events.
This air-vented assembly can absorb up to 55 kW of power during each allowed braking interval. Its resistor grid presents a cold value of 6.1 Ω, keeping brake current within the range expected by compatible Rexroth drives. The housing carries a protection rating of IP23, so it blocks fingers and falling water drops but should be installed in an enclosure where dust exposure is controlled. The permissible on-state lasts a maximum of 7.2 s; after that, the resistor requires a cool-down pause of 112.8 s to prevent thermal saturation and protect the insulation system.
Thermal behavior follows a time constant of 100 s, so temperature rise remains gradual and predictable under cyclic duty. Even at peak load, the external surface is limited to 80 °C, which helps reduce heat transfer to nearby components when free airflow is maintained. The allowable average duty is an operating factor of 6% SD, matching the 120-second load cycle used in Bosch Rexroth sizing charts. With a mass of 26 kg, the unit requires a mounting surface that can support it securely. Overall dimensions and connection data include a depth of 490 mm, a width of 395 mm, a height of 520 mm, a line-terminal cross-section of 16 mm², and a minimum connectable resistance of 5 Ω for parallel combinations.
