The Bosch Rexroth Indramat RZW03.1-037-040 is an air-cooled braking resistor supplied within the RZW Braking Resistors series. During deceleration or overhauling operation of servo drives and inverters, it converts surplus DC-bus energy into heat so that the connected controller can maintain safe bus voltage levels without tripping. By absorbing this regenerative energy, the module protects power electronics and allows repeated, controlled braking cycles in automated handling, packaging, and conveying equipment.
The resistor has a continuous dissipation capability of 37 kW when the element is energized for a 40% SD duty cycle. In practice, this equates to a maximum on-time of 48 seconds followed by 72 seconds off within each 120-second window. The resistive path measures 8.1 Ω, while drives with a higher bus voltage can be connected if the combined resistance remains at or above the 7 Ω minimum. An M10 terminal stud simplifies ring-lug connection, and the conductor pair must have a cross-sectional area of 25 mm² to carry the expected current. The housing has an IP23 protection rating, which provides protection against water sprayed at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical while requiring indoor installation.
The enclosure has a frame width of 795 mm, a height of 520 mm, and a depth of 490 mm, so adequate installation space must be reserved. The steel enclosure weighs 51 kg, and two lifting eyes support safe handling during installation. The resistor has a thermal time constant of 100 s, allowing its temperature to rise gradually during the active portion of the duty cycle. This thermal behavior helps prevent the element from exceeding its operating limits when the required off-time is observed. Design 1 identifies the first construction version within the product group.
