Product Description:
The RZW03.1-037-006 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RZW Braking Resistors series. As part of a regenerative drive system, it converts surplus electrical energy generated during motor deceleration into heat, protecting the inverter and maintaining the DC-bus voltage within safe limits. The unit is installed outside the power cabinet and is intended for cyclic duty in industrial automation systems where rapid starts and stops are routine. Its external placement allows generated heat to dissipate away from sensitive drive electronics while keeping the resistor accessible for inspection and wiring.
The rated power absorption is 37 kW, which is the maximum power the element can dissipate without exceeding its thermal limit. The fixed resistance value of 7.4 Ω sets the braking current when connected to a drive, while a minimum connectable resistance of 7 Ω prevents overcurrent if units are wired in parallel. During a 120-second load cycle, the resistor may conduct for a switch-on duration of 7.2 s before it must cool for up to 112.8 s. This duty pattern corresponds to an operating factor of 6% SD. Heat stored in the resistor core decays with a thermal time constant of 100 s, and resistor type F1 indicates that the unit is designed for pulse loading.
The housing is protected to IP23, allowing vertical mounting in ventilated indoor locations while providing protection against dripping water and accidental finger contact. The housing measures 520 mm in height, 395 mm in width, and 490 mm in depth, providing a compact footprint for its power capacity. The assembly has a mass of 26 kg, which provides thermal inertia and requires a mounting surface capable of supporting the load securely. Power leads accept cable lugs sized for a conductor cross section of 10 mm². The internal terminals use design 1, allowing the power conductors to be routed and secured in an orderly arrangement. Adequate clearance around the enclosure supports natural airflow and helps prevent heat from accumulating near adjacent equipment.
