Product Description:
The RZW03.1-030-015 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as a component of the RZW Braking Resistors series. It connects to servo drives that return excess kinetic energy during rapid deceleration, converting that energy into heat so the DC-bus voltage remains within safe limits in industrial automation systems. The unit uses design 1 within the series and mounts as an external accessory beside the drive panel, with an M10 stud interface providing a secure mechanical and electrical connection.
Its continuous dissipation capacity reaches 30 kW and is matched to a nominal resistance of 9.5 Ω, which determines the current drawn from the drive during braking events. The resistor may be energized for up to 18 s before a cooling pause is required, and the mandatory recovery interval lasts 102 s. These operating periods result in a permitted duty cycle of 15% SD. Supply conductors with cross-sectional areas of up to 16 mm² can be connected to the terminal bar. The internal winding geometry allows the braking energy to be dispersed without exceeding the resistor’s surface temperature limit.
The housing measures 520 mm high, 395 mm wide, and 490 mm deep, allowing placement inside machine frames or on cabinet roofs. During an active braking sequence, the external fins can reach 80 °C, and their thermal mass has a 100 s time constant that indicates the rate of temperature rise after power is applied. Ventilation slots and drip shields provide an IP23 protection class, which prevents access to hazardous parts with fingers and protects the enclosure against water sprayed at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical. The steel enclosure weighs 26 kg, supporting stable installation next to the associated drive equipment. The minimum connectable resistance for parallel arrays is 8.75 Ω, allowing multiple elements to be grouped when greater braking power absorption is required.
