The RZW03.1-015-040 braking resistor is supplied by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. It is installed on the DC link of an inverter or servo drive to absorb surplus kinetic energy during motor deceleration. The resistor converts that energy into heat, helping prevent overvoltage events in industrial automation axes.
The resistor’s continuous dissipation capability is rated at 15 kW, and its fixed resistance value of 18 Ω determines the peak current that the drive can safely divert. An operating factor of 40% SD applies across a 120-second load cycle: the element may conduct for 48 seconds and then cool for 72 seconds. The peak-to-continuous factor of 2.2 allows brief energy surges above the steady rating during the active period. Conductors with a 10 mm² cross section connect directly to the terminals to limit temperature rise. The screw terminals are prepared for the required connection leads. Electrical clearance from the DC link is maintained by the specified mounting arrangement and integrated threads.
The resistor enclosure stands 520 mm high, 395 mm wide, and 490 mm deep, fitting control cabinets that allow natural convection around the finned surface. With a mass of 26 kg, the assembly provides adequate thermal inertia while remaining suitable for panel mounting through the integrated M10 threaded points. The IP23 protection rating guards against dripping water and limits the entry of solid objects, so the unit must be installed away from direct water jets. A thermal time constant of 100 s indicates the rate of temperature rise after power is applied and supports operation within the stated duty cycle. When several RZW units share a common bus, wiring must maintain a minimum connectable resistance of 17.5 Ω to avoid overcurrent alarms.
