Connected to an AC drive’s DC bus, it converts surplus regenerative energy into heat so the drive can decelerate a motor without causing an overvoltage condition. The resistor supports automated axes that undergo frequent braking by providing a controlled path for energy returned from the motor. This function helps prevent excessive DC-bus voltage during rapid deceleration and allows the connected drive to manage regenerative loads safely.
The unit can absorb up to 11 kW of electrical power during each braking event, a value matched to its nominal resistance of 23 Ω. At this resistance, the minimum connectable limit of 20 Ω is respected, ensuring that the drive remains within its allowable current range. The housing carries a protection rating of IP23, so airborne particles larger than 12 mm and falling water at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical will not impair operation.
