Product Description:
The RZW03.1-004-025 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. In automated plants, it is wired across the DC bus of an inverter so that surplus kinetic energy is converted into heat, preventing overvoltage events during rapid motor deceleration. An IP23 housing blocks solid objects larger than 12.5 mm and angled water spray, making the device suitable for cabinet interiors with controlled airflow.
This unit can dissipate up to 3.5 kW of peak power during a regenerative event, while its continuous power rating is 4 kW when the required cooling conditions are met. The element resistance is 47 Ω, and drives with DC bus values that require lower impedance can use additional modules as long as the total resistance remains at or above the 30 Ω minimum. Operation is based on a duty cycle of 25% SD. The 120 s cycle allows a maximum on-time of 30 s followed by an off-time of 90 s, keeping the surface temperature within the limits associated with the 150 s thermal time constant. Power is supplied through two screw terminals sized for 2.5 mm² conductors. The aluminum case is tapped for M5 hardware, allowing it to be fastened directly to a panel or heat sink plate, and this mounting arrangement is identified as Design 1.
The rectangular body stands 335 mm high, is 230 mm wide, and measures 182 mm deep, allowing installation beside standard frequency converter stacks without exceeding typical enclosure depths. A mass of 7 kg provides thermal inertia that helps moderate temperature peaks while permitting manageable installation and maintenance handling. Two external terminals simplify wiring checks, while the conductor cross-section limit helps maintain low connection resistance and reduces the risk of hot spots when the module dissipates its rated load.
