Product Description:
The RZW03.1-003-025 is a braking resistor manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. In drive-based automation, this component converts excess kinetic energy generated during rapid motor deceleration into heat, preventing DC-bus overvoltage and protecting inverter electronics. The device is selected for use with servo or spindle drives that lack an internal dissipation path and therefore require an external energy sink sized for the expected regenerative load.
The resistor can absorb up to 3 kW of pulse power, and its fixed resistance of 68 Ω limits discharge current to a predictable level that matches the drive’s chopper circuitry. Its IP23 enclosure permits installation inside ventilated control cabinets and provides protection against contact by fingers, objects larger than 12.5 mm, and water spray at angles up to 60 degrees from vertical. The duty cycle is limited to 25% SD, which means the element may conduct for one quarter of a repeating cycle without exceeding its surface temperature limit. Within that cycle, the permissible energized interval is capped at 30 seconds, followed by an unpowered cooling period of up to 90 seconds. Connection terminals accept cables with a cross-sectional area of 2.5 mm². If several resistors are wired in parallel, the total connected resistance must not fall below 30 Ω.
The aluminum housing is 335 mm high, 230 mm wide, and 182 mm deep, allowing it to be mounted vertically in control cabinets with limited depth. Its mass is 7 kg, which must be considered when selecting the mounting surface and fasteners. Adequate clearance around the housing is necessary because regenerated energy is released as heat during braking. A thermal time constant of 150 seconds indicates that the resistor temperature changes gradually, allowing heat accumulation over successive braking events to be evaluated. Design index 1 indicates the first design iteration of this product. The selected installation must provide sufficient ventilation and prevent nearby temperature-sensitive components or wiring from contacting the resistor housing.
