The RZW02.1-400-006 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Supplied in design 1 and line 2, this passive module is wired across the DC link of Rexroth drive controllers to dissipate regenerated energy whenever a motor slows or reverses. By converting surplus electrical power into heat, the unit keeps the intermediate circuit voltage within acceptable limits and helps protect IGBTs, bus capacitors, and connected machinery during fast stops in presses, gantry axes, and high-inertia conveyor systems.
The resistor network is rated for a continuous absorption capability of 400 kW, allowing the drive to shed large energy spikes without external cooling aids. Two parallel branches yield a minimum combined resistance of 2 x 1.6 Ω, which supports high braking current and rapid voltage clamping. A load cycle of 120 s sets the maximum time the resistor may remain energized before a rest period, while an operating factor of 6% SD limits average thermal stress during repetitive decelerations. Heat storage and release are characterized by a thermal time constant of 100 s, so temperature rise can be predicted and braking demand can be limited when necessary.
Each resistor group presents 1.8 Ω of impedance, which supports current calculations when modules are connected in parallel. The housing spans 795 mm in width, with a depth of 490 mm, a height of 960 mm, and a 770 mm mounting width that aligns with cabinet framing. A mass of 102 kg adds thermal inertia and mechanical stability during vibration. The assembly carries an IP20 rating that limits exposure to dust and accidental finger contact, and M10 threaded inserts support secure vertical or horizontal mounting inside enclosed electrical rooms.
