Product Description:
Bosch Rexroth Indramat supplies the RZW02.1-090-015 braking module as part of its RZW Braking Resistors series. The unit is installed on the DC bus of drive systems to convert excess kinetic energy into heat during rapid deceleration. By keeping the link-circuit voltage within safe limits, the resistor protects frequency converters and servo drives from overvoltage and allows repeated braking cycles in material-handling and machine-tool applications.
The resistor core has a resistance of 3.3 Ω, and under pulsed operation, it can absorb up to 90 kW of thermal power. This rating is based on an operating duty of 15% SD, meaning the element is energized for only a small portion of each cycle to avoid overheating. A single braking pulse may last no longer than 18 seconds. The power leads require conductors with a cross-sectional area of 50 mm², while the protective earth conductor must have a cross-sectional area of at least 10 mm². The component follows the Line 2 configuration for the platform. Its Design 1 housing fits in panel spaces without additional shielding because the grille helps prevent accidental contact with live elements.
After a braking cycle, the element must remain de-energized for 102 seconds. This pause works with its thermal time constant of 100 seconds to let the winding temperature return to a steady state. The assembly measures 490 mm in width, 270 mm in height, and 1,000 mm in depth. It weighs 44 kg, allowing suitable cabinet rails to carry the load without structural reinforcement. Ingress protection is limited to the finger-safe level provided by the IP20 protection class, making the unit suitable for indoor cabinets with forced ventilation. The open enclosure permits ventilating air to reach the resistor while preventing direct finger contact with hazardous internal parts. Adequate clearance around the housing is necessary so heat from repeated braking events can leave the cabinet without accumulating near adjacent drive components.
