Product Description:
The RZW02.1-075-040 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. Installed on the DC link of an IndraDrive inverter, the unit converts excess regenerative energy into heat so that connected servo axes can decelerate without causing an overvoltage condition. As a panel-mounted accessory, it supports drives in material-handling, machine-tool, and packaging applications that require controlled dynamic braking. The resistor provides a dedicated path for energy returned by a motor during rapid deceleration. This function helps the connected drive maintain a stable DC-link voltage when the mechanical load has significant inertia.
The resistor absorbs up to 75 kW of pulse power at a nominal resistance of 5 Ω, allowing the drive to dissipate large amounts of kinetic energy quickly. The housing has a protection rating of IP20, so it must be installed inside a ventilated cabinet and is protected against accidental finger contact. Its frame has a height of 710 mm and a depth of 490 mm, providing a large surface area for convection cooling. Bus bars with a conductor cross-section of 50 mm² connect the resistor directly to the DC link. The C3 type designation indicates the internal resistor stack arrangement, while an M10 terminal thread provides a secure bolted connection. During a 120-second load cycle, the available cooling path removes the heat generated by intermittent braking activity.
The resistor cools with a thermal time constant of 100 s, and the controller may cycle it at an operating factor of 40% SD. Within each 120-second sequence, the element can conduct for a maximum of 48 seconds, followed by a maximum off time of 72 seconds. These timing limits prevent excessive thermal and electrical stress inside the resistor. The assembly weighs 80 kg and has a width of 795 mm, so the cabinet structure must support its mass while maintaining adequate airflow clearance. A minimum connectable resistance of 3.75 Ω protects the drive against excessive peak current when multiple RZW units are connected in parallel. The product has design 1 and belongs to line 2 of the series.
