Product Description:
The RZW02.1-075-006 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. In a regenerative drive system, it converts surplus kinetic energy into heat, protecting the DC bus and connected inverters from overvoltage when a motor decelerates or a load reverses. The unit is intended for cabinet installation, where its dissipation capacity can be paired with servo or variable-frequency drives that require controlled braking power during cyclical machine operation. This function allows the drive system to manage energy returned by moving loads instead of allowing the DC-bus voltage to rise beyond an acceptable level.
The resistor can absorb up to 75 kW during each permitted duty cycle. Its element has a nominal resistance of 4.9 Ω, while a drive controller may connect additional units in parallel if the combined resistance remains above the minimum of 3.75 Ω. A short-term duty rating of 6% SD indicates the allowable energy throughput relative to the continuous rating. Within the 120-second load cycle, the stainless-steel grid is energized for only 7.2 s. The following 112.8 s off period allows the assembly to cool so its average temperature remains within safe operating limits. These timing limits must be considered when configuring brake-chopper pulses to prevent excessive thermal loading during repeated deceleration cycles.
An enclosure rating of IP20 provides protection against accidental finger contact but requires installation inside a ventilated electrical cabinet. Heat stored in the ceramic core dissipates over a thermal time constant of 100 s, which corresponds with the operating cycle and supports airflow calculations. The device weighs 22 kg and measures 490 mm wide, 600 mm deep, and 270 mm high, allowing placement on standard cabinet backplates. Conductors with cross-sectional areas up to 25 mm² are secured by an M10 terminal stud. The unit has a Design 1 configuration and belongs to Line 2 of the RZW series. Adequate clearance around the housing helps prevent accumulated heat from affecting nearby drive components during repeated braking events.
