Product Description:
The RZW02.1-055-060 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. As a dynamic braking element, it dissipates regenerative energy from inverter-fed servo axes, allowing drives on Line 2 DC bus systems to decelerate without triggering an overvoltage condition. The device belongs to Design 1 of the product group and fits control cabinets that can accommodate its 995 mm width, 710 mm height, and 490 mm depth.
The resistor provides a continuous absorption capability of 55 kW over a load cycle of 120 seconds. Its nominal resistance of 5.4 Ω converts surplus DC-link energy into heat, while the minimum permitted resistance of 5 Ω restricts current peaks during fault conditions. The operating factor is 60% SD, which establishes the permitted relationship between active braking and cooling periods. A thermal time constant of 100 seconds supports calculations of temperature rise as regenerated energy is dissipated. The IP20 enclosure prevents the entry of solid objects larger than 12.5 mm and is suitable for installation in a controlled indoor cabinet. A power conductor with a cross-sectional area of 50 mm² connects the resistor to the bus bars while limiting conductor losses under load.
The permitted on-time is 72 seconds during each operating cycle. During this interval, the surface temperature must remain at or below 80 °C to protect nearby wiring and cabinet components from excessive heat. A mandatory off-time of 48 seconds allows the resistor elements and frame to release stored thermal energy before another braking interval begins. The assembly weighs 93 kg, so its mounting surface must support the unit securely and withstand the forces associated with machine vibration. Its welded frame distributes heat across the cooling fins to reduce localized hot spots during repeated deceleration events. Heat is removed without external cooling fans, so the cabinet must provide sufficient open space around the resistor for natural airflow.
