Product Description:
The RZW02.1-055-040 braking resistor is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RZW Braking Resistors series. Mounted on the DC link of servo or inverter systems, the unit converts regenerative energy into heat during deceleration so that drive electronics and supply lines remain within voltage limits. Its metal-clad elements and vented frame allow cabinet installation in automated packaging machines, conveyors, or gantries where controlled thermal dissipation is required.
It is rated for continuous dissipation of 55 kW, meaning the resistor can release that amount of heat without exceeding its operating limits. The fixed resistance of 5.5 Ω sets the braking current flowing across the DC bus; lower resistance would raise the current, so the drive must support this value or comply with the 5 Ω minimum. The surface temperature may rise to 80 °C, so adequate spacing and airflow must prevent heat from accumulating around adjacent devices. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, indicating finger-safe openings but no protection against water; therefore, the resistor must be installed inside a dry cabinet. A thermal time constant of 100 s indicates that the resistor needs about one and two-thirds minutes to reach 63% of its final temperature after a step load, which is useful when planning repetitive braking cycles.
The duty profile uses a 40% SD operating factor within a 120 s load cycle, allowing the resistor to conduct for up to 48 s, followed by an idle period of 72 s to remain within thermal limits. A peak-to-continuous capability ratio of 2.2 permits short power surges above the continuous rating without damaging the resistor. The assembly measures 710 mm high, 595 mm wide, and 490 mm deep, and it weighs 56 kg. It carries design code 1 in line 2 of the product family, providing consistent mounting points and load information when supports and cables are selected.
