Product Description:
The RZW02.1-055-025 braking resistor is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RZW Braking Resistors series. In regenerative drive systems, this component dissipates surplus energy returned to the DC bus during rapid deceleration, keeping the bus voltage within safe limits and protecting inverters and connected motors. It is intended for industrial automation installations that require controlled electrical braking. The resistor integrates directly with corresponding Rexroth drive interfaces, providing a path for regenerative energy that cannot be retained on the DC bus.
The unit can absorb up to 55 kW of braking power during a single duty period. Its resistance is 5.1 Ω, which determines the current drawn at the DC-link voltage. For systems that require higher impedance, the minimum connectable resistance is 5 Ω, allowing the use of series arrangements. The total duty cycle lasts 120 s, while a duty factor of 25% SD limits average dissipation to one quarter of the cycle. During this interval, the resistor supports a peak-to-continuous power ratio of 3.2, enabling short bursts of intense energy dissipation without exceeding its thermal limits. Conductors with a cross-sectional area of 35 mm² are required to carry the resulting current safely.
The resistor can conduct for a maximum of 30 s before it must cool for 90 s. Its mass and internal design provide a thermal time constant of 100 s, which aligns with the specified operating cycle. The IP20 enclosure is suitable for cabinet mounting in dry areas with limited dust exposure, but it does not provide protection against water. The housing measures 1,000 mm deep, 490 mm wide, and 270 mm high, and it weighs 44 kg, so the mounting surface must provide adequate support. Threaded M10 inserts simplify attachment to the selected mounting structure. The device uses design index 1 and belongs to line 2 within the series.
