The module connects to the DC link of an Indramat drive and converts regenerative energy into heat whenever the motor decelerates, preventing overvoltage in the power section. In automated handling cells, press lines, or gantry axes, it serves as a dissipation element that supports fast braking cycles and limits stress on the drive electronics. The resistor is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet rather than for exposed mounting on a machine.
The resistor is built to Design 1 on Line 2 and has a rectangular steel enclosure measuring 710 mm high, 795 mm wide, and 490 mm deep. Its terminals accept copper conductors up to 50 mm², allowing the wiring to carry the high discharge currents associated with its 40 kW peak power rating. The ceramic element has a resistance of 7 Ω, while the minimum allowable resistance is 6 Ω to keep the braking current within the permitted range of the companion inverter.
